Six Former Cal Players In NFL Playoffs Divisional Round With At Least One In All Four Games

BERKELEY – Six former Cal players are on active rosters of teams in the NFL Divisional Playoffs with at least one in each of the four contests January 13-14. Cameron Jordan (New Orleans), Alex Mack (Atlanta), Khalfani Muhammad (Tennessee) and Brian Schwenke (Tennessee) were on winning teams during the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs that ended Sunday. The foursome joins Tyson Alualu (Pittsburgh) and Mychal Kendricks (Philadelphia) after their teams had Wild Card Round byes.

Jordan contributed three tackles, 1.0 sack (-9 yards), two quarterback hits and two passes defended for New Orleans in a 31-26 home win Sunday over Carolina to advance to a Divisional matchup at Minnesota on Sunday (3:40 pm CT, FOX). Jordan came up huge on Carolina's final drive of the contest by forcing an intentional grounding penalty on Carolina's Cam Newton that resulted in a 13-yard loss and was a key play to help the Saints preserve the five-point victory.

Mack played all 73 offensive snaps Saturday in Atlanta's 26-13 win at NFC West champions Los Angeles to get the defending NFC champions into a showdown Saturday (4:35 pm ET, NBC) at this year's No. 1 NFC seed Philadelphia squad that features Kendricks. Mack helped push Devonta Freeman into the end zone on his three-yard touchdown run in the second quarter of the win over the Rams.

Schwenke saw limited action and Muhammad did not play but was on the active roster Saturday in Tennessee's 22-21 comeback victory at Kansas City after the Titans trailed at halftime, 21-3. The victory earned Tennessee a road game Saturday (8:15 pm ET, CBS) at the AFC's top seed New England.

Alualu's Pittsburgh squad will host Jacksonville on Sunday (1:05 pm ET).

Cal has at least one player on a roster in each of the four Divisional Round games and had at least one player participate in all four Wild Card Round games.

Cal started the Wild Card Round with nine former players on active rosters of playoff teams but Lorenzo Alexander (Buffalo), Mitchell Schwartz (Kansas City) and Jared Goff (Los Angeles) were on teams eliminated along with Carolina coaches Ron Rivera (head coach) and Richard Rodgers Sr. (assistant defensive backs coach) that are also former Golden Bears.

Alexander had a team-high 10 tackles, 1.0 sack (-5 yards), two tackles for loss and one quarterback hit in Buffalo's 10-3 loss at Jacksonville on Sunday in the Bills' first playoff game since 1999.

Goff completed 24-of-45 passes for 259 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Rams' 26-13 home loss to the Falcons that marked the franchise's first appearance in the playoffs since 2004.

Schwartz played in all 58 offensive snaps for the Chiefs

Daniel Lasco is also a member of the New Orleans roster but on injured reserve.

Cal began the 2017 NFL season ranked second in the Pac-12 and tied for 13th nationally with 32 former Bears representing Cal as players on NFL teams. The list at the end of the regular season included 31 players on 53-man NFL rosters and two others who ended the season as members of practice squads, as well as three that coached in the NFL.
