California looks to get back in the win column in its first trip to Tucson to face Arizona since 2014.

Arizona leads the all-time series, 17-14-2, and has won the last four games between the teams although the last two meetings have both come down to the game's final play with Arizona taking a 45-44 double overtime win in Berkeley last season and a 49-45 decision in Tucson in 2014 when the Wildcats ended the game with a successful Hail Mary.    

Brandon McIlwain became Cal's first quarterback to rush for over 100 yards in a game last Saturday since Joe Kapp ran for 130 yards against Oregon in 1958. McIlwain finished with a career-high 123 rushing yards that were the most by a Pac-12 quarterback in 2018 on 15 carries. He is the Pac-12's leading QB rusher with 38 attempts for 252 yards (6.6 ypc) and two touchdowns.

Evan Weaver has recorded double digit tackles in all four games this season, including a career-high 14 last Saturday vs. Oregon. He ranks fourth in the nation in solo tackles (7.3) and fifth in tackles (13.3) per game.

Patrick Laird is approaching 1500 career rushing yards and 2000 career all-purpose yards. He needs 72 rushing yards and 162 all-purpose yards to reach those milestones.

Ashtyn Davis leads the Pac-12 and ranks 11th in the nation in combined kick return yards with 308. He garnered his first career kickoff return for a touchdown vs. Idaho State and ranks tied for second in the nation in that category. 

Cal is allowing 25.0 points, 163.8 rushing yards and 184.3 passing yards per game. Those numbers – all significantly lower averages than 2016, the last seaso before Justin Wilcox arrived (42.6, 272.8, 245.4). 

Team Defensive Rankings
The Bears have allowed its first three opponents to score only 13 times in 54 combined drives (24.1 percent). Cal ranks tied for 11th in the nation in interceptions (7) and tied for 17th in first downs defense with 71. In the Pac-12 rankings, the Bears are second in time of possession (31:44) and third in turnovers gained (8). 

Individuals In Defensive Rankings 
Jaylinn Hawkins picked off his third pass of 2018 at BYU after two vs. North Carolina. He ranks tied for third in the nation in interceptions with three. Hawkins is one of four players in the Pac-12 to have two interceptions in a game this season. Ashtyn Davis ranks tied for 16th in the nation with two interceptions. Camryn Bynum registered a career-high and game-high four pass breakups vs. North Carolina. After adding one more at BYU, he ranks tied for fifth in the Pac-12 in passes defended with five. Tevin Paul is third on the team in tackles with 15. He leads the Bears in tackles for loss with 4.5. Paul has started all four games and has made starts at both defensive end and outside linebacker. 

Defensive Dynamic Duo
Evan Weaver and Jordan Kunaszyk are Cal's leading tacklers this season with 53 for Weaver and 39 for Kunaszyk. Weaver ranks fourth in the nation and second in the Pac-12 in solo tackles per game (7.3) and as well as fifth national and first in the Pac-12 in total tackles per game (13.3). Weaver, who has notched double-digit tackles in every game this season, set a career high with 14 tackles vs. Oregon, while tying with Kunaszyk at BYU with a game-high of 12. He boasted 13 tackles each vs. North Carolina and Idaho State to lead Cal in both contests. Kunaszyk ranks fifth in the nation with 7.0 solo tackles per game. Kunaszyk and Weaver have combined over a third of Cal's tackles this season (33.8%, 92-of-272). Their combined average of 14.25 solo tackles per game lead the nation.

Dual Attack QB Mcilwain Under Center For The Bears
With 123 rushing yards vs. Oregon last Saturday, Brandon McIlwain became Cal's first quarterback to rush for over 100 yards in a game since Joe Kapp ran for 130 yards against Oregon in 1958. The 123 rushing yards were the most by a Pac-12 quarterback in 2018 on 15 carries. One of his carries was a 28-yard touchdown run that was the longest of his Cal career, his second rushing touchdown this season and Cal's longest run of the campaign. The school single-season record for rushing TDs by a quarterback is six, last accomplished by Davis Webb in 2016. McIlwain completed 11-of-21 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against Oregon. The completions, attempts and passing yards were all career highs. McIlwain completed a 45-yard pass to Ian Bunting in the fourth quarter against Oregon. The play was both McIlwain's longest pass and Bunting's longest reception of their Cal careers.

National Honors Candidate Patrick Laird Approaching Milestones
National honors candidate Patrick Laird scored his second receiving touchdown of the season at BYU (25 yards) after he recorded a receiving and a rushing touchdown for the first time in his career in the season opener vs. North Carolina. Last Saturday against Oreogn, Laird notched his 11th career rushing touchdown and also completed his first career pass against the Ducks, becoming the fourth Cal player to complete a pass in 2018. The last time Cal had four or more players complete a pass in a season was 2013 (seven). Laird is second on the team in rushing with 67 attempts for 236 yards and two touchdowns, while he also boasts 90 yards on 15 receptions and two receiving TDs, His seven receptions at BYU (53 yards) were a career high. Laird is approaching 1500 career rushing yards and 2000 career all-purpose yards. He needs 72 rushing yards and 162 all-purpose yards to reach those milestones. Laird is a national honors candidate and on the preseason watch list for numerous awards including those that recognize community service. Laird has an opportunity to become only the third two-time 1000-yard rusher in Cal history with the others Russell White (3) and Marshawn Lynch (2). 

Duncan Paces Bears With Three Receiving TDs
Through four games, Jordan Duncan leads the Bears with three receiving touchdowns after hauling in his third last Saturday vs. Oregon prior to bringing down two for the first time of his career vs. Idaho State. On the season, Duncan boasts 11 catches for 135 yards and three TDs.Duncan has already surpassed his 2017 season totals of 10 catches for 120 yards and one touchdown. Vic Wharton III paces Cal with 17 receptions, while Kanawai Noa's 159 receiving yards are a team best. 

Davis Leads Pac-12 In Kick Returns
Ashtyn Davis currently ranks second in the Pac-12 and 16th in the nation in kick return yardage (28.0 ypr). Davis returned his first kick return for a touchdown (89 yards) vs. Idaho State and ranks tied for second in the nation with his one kick return touchdown. Davis' combined kick return yards (308 yards) rank first in the Pac-12 and 11th in the nation. Davis shared the nation's lead in kick returns a year ago with 39 while ranking ninth in kick return yards (826) and 14th in combined kick return yards (826). His total kick returns and kick return yards in 2017 both rank third in Cal's single-season history. Davis' career kick return totals are 50 returns for an average of 22.7 ypr. As a team, Cal ranks 18th in the nation in kick return yardage (26.7 ypr). The Bears averaged 20.2 in 2017. In addition to Davis' numbers, Jeremiah Hawkins returned a kickoff for a career-high 54 yards vs. Oregon. Cal also ranks eighth in the Pac-12 in kickoff coverage (40.0 net average).
