Tuiasosopo Selected To Polynesian Football Hall Of Fame

Cal Coach A Member Of 2019 Class

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Marques Tuiasosopo was selected Wednesday to the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Tuiasosopo joins his father, Manu, who was a member of the Class of 2018. Tuiasosopo will be inducted along with fellow Class of 2019 members Joe Salave'a, Dan Saleaumua and Lofa Tatupu.

The four inductees were selected from a field of over 200 nominees and 12 finalists by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame selection committee and all living inductees.

The Class of 2019 will be honored January 18-19, 2019, during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend on the Hawaiian island of Oahu and the Polynesian Bowl at Aloha Stadium.

Marques Tuiasosopo, Passing Game Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

• Capped a brilliant four-year playing career for Washington (1997-2000) by finishing eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting as a 2000 senior while also earning Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year and Rose Bowl MVP honors
• Two-time UW captain (1999-2000) who established the school's career total offense record (7374 yards) as he passed for 5879 yards and 33 touchdowns while rushing for another 1495 yards with 21 TDs
• Became first NCAA Division I player to pass for at least 300 and rush for at least 200 yards in the same game as he combined for a school-record 509 total yards (302 pass, 207 rush) in a victory over Stanford as a 2009 junior
• Helped the Huskies reach bowls in each of his four seasons (1997 Aloha Bowl, 1998 Oahu Bowl, 1999 Holiday Bowl, 2000 Rose Bowl)
• Earned his bachelor's degree in business from Washington in 2001
• Selected in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft by Oakland and spent seven of his eight NFL seasons with the Raiders (2001-06, 2008) while he was also a member of the New York Jets in 2007
• Began his coaching career as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Washington (2009-10) and also had stints at UCLA (2011-12, -16) and USC (2014-15), as well as a second tenure at Washington (2013), before joining the Golden Bears coaching staff in 2017
• In his second season at Cal as passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach/recruiting coordinator  
• In his first campaign with the Golden Bears helped quarterback Ross Bowers throw for the sixth-highest yardage total (3039) in Cal history
• Comes from an incredible athletic lineage with many collegiate and professional athletes in his family including Cal Athletic Hall of Famer and All-American fullback Johnny Olszewski as well as former Cal wide receiver Faasamala Tagaloa and his father, Manu Tuiasosopo, who played at offensive line at UCLA and spent eight seasons in the NFL before he was enshrined into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2018
