Bears Drop Regular-Season Finale To Pacific

Cal Falls To UOP, 2-1, To Earn No. 3 Seed In America East

BERKELEY -- California field hockey dropped its regular-season finale to Pacific, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Underhill Field.

Katrina Carter scored the lone goal for the Golden Bears with an assist from Gabi Jimenez in the 29th minute. Carter led the Bears in shots on the day, with all three of her shots on goal. Megan Rodgers tallied two shots on target.

Carter's goal was the last of a three-goal first half, with Pacific taking the advantage early on. Kriekie van Wyk put the Tigers on the board at 5:06, dribbling a ball into the circle to go 1v1 with goalkeeper Natalie Dalton. She shot into an empty net as Valen Garraffo tried to thwart her.

A corner in the 18th minute helped Pacific to a second goal when Dalton successfully stopped the first shot, but Taylor Dempsey was quick to the rebound to send it to the back of the cage for a 2-0 Pacific lead.

Jimenez took a ball into the circle in the 29th minute, sending it left to Carter who tapped it in near the post, cutting the Tiger lead in half, 2-1.

At halftime, the Tigers led 2-1 with a 5-2 lead in shots. Dalton tallied three saves, and both teams were an even 2-2 in penalty corners

The score would remain 2-1 for the final 35 minutes as both teams aggressively fought to pad their totals.

Pacific finished with an 11-7 advantage in shots, and 7-6 lead in penalty corners.

Danielle Mentink played 34 minutes of the final half for the Bears, tallying seven saves and withstanding five second-half corners from Pacific.
