BERKELEY – The Cal men's soccer team has signed seven student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent, a class that features extensive national team program experience and a diversity of skills that has the future of Golden Bear program looking bright.

Forward Arman Samimi (La Jolla, Calif.), goalkeeper Collin Travasos (Encinitas, Calif.), midfielder Fernando Andrade (Chula Vista, Calif.), defender Togo Nakamura (Torrance, Calif.), midfielder Paolo Carrillo-Weisenburger (Newport Beach, Calif.), midfielder Fahmi Ibrahim (Alameda, Calif.) and midfielder Jack Singer (San Francisco, Calif.) will all begin their Cal careers this fall in Berkeley.

Carrillo-Weisenburger, Ibrahim and Singer will join the program for the spring semester while the rest of the class will enroll at Cal in the fall.

Samimi will graduate from The Bishop's School a year early to join the Bears in 2019. He is a prolific goal-scorer who played on the U16 Boys National Team and U18 Men's National Team.

"Arman is first and foremost an outstanding goal-scorer," Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said. "He will bring a level of skill and finishing ability to the team."

Travasos was regarded as one of the top goalkeeper recruits in the nation. He also played on the U18 Men's National Team and is spending this season with the Atlanta United.

"Collin has a combination of great size and great athleticism," Grimes said. "He has a great soccer IQ as well."

Andrade led St. Augustine High School to the 2017 CIF Open Division championship. He was a teammate with Samimi for Albion SC in San Diego.

"Fernando is first and foremost a natural born leader," Grimes said. "He has leadership qualities you can't teach and coach that are just ingrained in him naturally. We know his skill and his ability to play on both sides of the ball in the midfield are outstanding."

Nakamura has spent time in the U14, U15 AND U15 Boys National Team camps and has been a member of the U.S. Olympic Development Program. He is a member of the L.A. Galaxy Academy.

"Togo is an extremely technical and skilled left back," Grimes said. "He loves to attack out of the back and get forward and join the offense. He will follow suit with a lot of traditional Cal outside backs who join our attack."

Carrillo-Weisenburger is a four-star prospect by TopDrawerSoccer.com and has spent time with the Olympic Development Program in San Diego, Los Angeles and Bradenton, Fla.

"Paolo is a classic No. 6 defensive midfielder," Grimes said. "He has great range and great passing ability, and brings a level of intensity and an edge to every game he plays in. Any team would love to have that."

Ibrahim is a top goal-scorer for the San Jose Earthquakes Academy. He netted 14 goals last year for the Quakes' U18/U19 team.

"Fahmi has incredible change of pace and explosiveness in the attack," Grimes said. "He can take players on 1 v 1 with his skill and speed to be an extremely effective attacking player."

Singer is a three-time All-Marin County Athletic League First Team selection who spent three years in the U.S. Olympic Development Program.

"Jack is an excellent two-way midfielder," Grimes said. "He can play all three positions in the center midfield. He has very good finishing ability with both feet and comes with great work ethic."

The addition of the 2018 recruiting class will give the Bears a strong group of underclassmen in 2019. Cal played the 2018 season with 12 true freshmen or redshirt freshmen – which made up half of its entire roster.

"These guys have it all," Grimes said. "From a character standpoint, they fit our culture. Academically, they are all outstanding and are driven to get their degree from Cal."
