Anigwe Nominated For 2019 Wade Trophy

ATLANTA  - For the third year in a row, Cal forward Kristine Anigwe has been named to the "Wade Watch" list as a candidate for the 2019 Wade Trophy, the Women's Basketball Coaches association announced on Tuesday. The Wade Trophy — now in its 42nd year — is the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball, and is named in honor of the late, legendary Delta State University head coach Lily Margaret Wade.

Anigwe, who has also been named to the 2019 Naismith, Wooden, and Lisa Leslie Award watch lists, is one of four players from the Pac-12 on the early-season watch. The full list of Wade Watch candidates can be found here.

A three-time WBCA Honorable Mention All-American, Anigwe has started her senior year in dominant fashion, averaging 25.5 points per game and 14.8 rebounds per game. Anigwe currently ranks sixth in Division I in rebounding and seventh in scoring, the only player in the nation ranked in the Top 10 in both categories. The 6-4 Anigwe is also tied for the national lead with four double-doubles on the season, all while leading the Golden Bears to a 4-0 start.

In Cal's season-opening win over Houston, Anigwe scored a season-high 37 points, 21 of which came in the third quarter alone. She followed it up with a 24-point, 22-rebound performance on the road against Penn State, marking her second career game with 20+ points and 20+ rebounds. Anigwe's 22 rebounds are still tied for the highest single-game total by any player in Division I this season, and she earned both ESPNW National Player of the Week and Pac-12 Player of the Week accolades for her performance in the first week of the season. Following a 16-point, 12-rebound performance against BYU, Anigwe went off for 25 points and 12 rebounds in her latest outing, going 10-14 from the floor and adding five blocked shots in Cal's win on Sunday against Pacific.

A standout since her first season in Berkeley, Anigwe ranks in the top five in program history in both scoring and rebounding. She currently stands at 1,951 career points and 930 career rebounds, with a chance to become the program's all-time leading scorer.

Anigwe and the 18th-ranked Golden Bears will be back in action on Friday, taking on Tulane at the University of San Diego Thanksgiving Tournament.
