Anigwe Collects Conference Honors

Senior Standout Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week

SAN FRANCISCO – For the second time this season, Cal center/forward Kristine Anigwe has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. The three-time All-American continued her dominant start to the season, averaging 21 points per game and 13 rebounds per game in Cal's two wins at the San Diego Thanksgiving Tournament. This is the fifth career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for Anigwe, who collected both Pac-12 and ESPNW national honors after the first week of the 2018-19 season.

A three-time All-Pac-12 selection, Anigwe opened the weekend with a 17-point, 10-rebound effort against Tulane in which she showed off her expanded range, connecting on three of four attempts from beyond the arc. Anigwe's three made three-pointers tied her single-game best, set last season against USC. In Saturday's win over San Diego, it was all about the interior game, as Anigwe went off for 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for her sixth consecutive double-double. The 6'4" Phoenix product went 10-16 from the floor against the Toreros as she recorded her fourth 20-point performance of the season.

A candidate for the 2019 Wade Trophy, Anigwe is tied for the national lead with six double-doubles on the year and has now recorded a double-double in her last seven outings for the Bears, dating back to last season. Her 47 career double-doubles rank third among all active players in the nation and are tied with Ashley Walker for the most by any Cal player in the last 15 seasons. Anigwe also ranks third in Division I with 14.2 rebounds per game and is eighth in scoring at 24.0 points per game, the only player in the nation ranked in the Top 10 in both categories.

With her impressive start to the season, Anigwe continues her climb through the Cal record books. With her 25 points on Saturday against San Diego, Anigwe passed Golden Bear great Alexis Gray-Lawson for third on the Bears' all-time scoring list. Anigwe currently stands at 1,993 career points and also ranks fifth on the Cal's all-time rebounding list with 956 career boards. The 2016 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Anigwe has a chance to become just the 11th player in conference history to amass 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, joining the likes of Lisa Leslie, Tina Thompson, and Chiney and Nneka Ogwumike.

Anigwe and the Golden Bears will be back in action on Sunday, hosting CSUN at 2 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion.  Cal is ranked 15th in the latest AP Poll, the program's highest ranking since December 2014.
