Kim Collects All-Region Recognition
Junior Striker Selected To All-Pacific Third Team
BERKELEY – Cal forward
Abi Kim continues to be recognized for her strong performance this season and has earned United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region honors, the organization announced on Monday evening.
Kim, who earned All-Pac-12 recognition earlier in the month, was named to the third team. The full list of All-Region honorees can be found
here.
This is Kim's first time earning All-Region honors, adding to what has been an already eventful year for the junior striker.
Kim spent much of the summer with the Under-20 United States Women's National Team, preparing for and competing in the Under-20 FIFA Women's World Cup in France. Kim then returned to Berkeley where she led the Bears in both scoring (six goals) and total points (13 points).
"We are really happy for Abi to be recognized as one of the best attacking players in our region," said Bears' head coach
Neil McGuire. "It's been a big year for her with the U-20 World Cup, and to finish with this is her reward for her dedication to her development and her teammates."
A Second Team All-Pac-12 selection in 2017 and a Pac-12 All-Freshman honoree in 2016, Kim closed the 2018 campaign with a strong run of form, scoring three times in Cal's final six games of the year. The Vashon, Washington product led the Bears in both shots and shots on goal this season and finished just one goal shy of her single-season best.
Kim is one of 27 players slated to return for the Golden Bears next season. Cal is also bringing in the
eighth-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to TopDrawerSoccer.com.
