Cal Claims Academic Honors
Thirteen Golden Bears Named To Pac-12 All-Academic Team
SAN FRANCISCO – Thirteen members of the Cal women's soccer team have been recognized for their efforts on the field and in the classroom, earning spots on the Pac-12 All-Academic teams announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The Golden Bear group was headlined by sophomore defender
Emily Smith, who earned First Team All-Academic honors. Sophomore midfielder
Emma Westin and redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Olivia Sekany earned a spot on the second team, while
Caroline Clark,
Daisy Cleverley,
Mia Corbin,
Luca Deza,
Jordyn Elliott,
Kayla Fong,
Kai Henderson,
Abi Kim,
Anja Koehler, and
Morgan Rogers earned honorable mention.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 and appeared in at least 50 percent of their team's contests during the season. Freshmen are not eligible for selection.
An applied mathematics major with a 4.00 GPA, Smith was also named to the
Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team earlier in the month. Fong and Cleverley were named to the District 8 Second Team.Â
The Golden Bears have had a history of success in the classroom, winning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award each of the last five seasons and nine times overall under head coach
Neil McGuire. The 2017-18 academic year saw the Bears boast their highest cumulative GPA in 12 years, which also ranked second-highest among all large women's sports teams at Cal.
