Bears' Defense Limits WSU To A Season-Low 19 Points

  • With tonight's 19-13 loss to Washington State, Cal falls to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the Pac-12. The Bears next play at USC on Saturday, Nov. 10.
  • Cal's defense has allowed a total of 36 points (12.0 ppg) over its past three games.
  • QB Chase Garbers rushed 11 times for a career-high 67 yards. His previous best was 54 yards at Oregon State. Garbers had four rushes for more than 10 yards, including a long of 20.
  • Malik McMorris caught his fourth career receiving touchdown and second of 2018 off a 2-yard pass from Garbers. The TD marked Garbers' 10th passing touchdown this season.
  • Evan Weaver grabbed his second interception in as many weeks with a pick in the first quarter that came off a tipped pass by Tevin Paul. It was also Weaver's second career interception after he returned one for a TD vs. Washington last week.
  • Weaver and Jordan Kunaszyk, Cal's two leading tacklers entering the game, tied for tackle honors vs. WSU with nine stops apiece.
  • With a sack in the fourth quarter, Kunaszyk has had at least half a sack in each of his last three games and has 3.5 sacks on the season.
  • Washington State entered the game averaging 40.8 ppg and 476.2 ypg. The Bears held the Cougars to 19 points (lowest output of the season) and 413 yards of offense.
  • Greg Thomas connected on 2-of-3 field goal attempts, both over 40 yards. His first was a 42-yarder in the second quarter and he made a career-long 46-yarder in the third quarter. His previous long was 44 yards vs. Idaho State.
  • Cal finished the night with 10 points off of turnovers - scoring a touchdown after an Evan Weaver interception and a field goal following a WSU fumble. The Bears outscored WSU, 10-0, off turnovers.
  • Tonight marked the first career starts for junior LB Zeandae Johnson and freshman WR Nikko Remigio.
