BEAR NECESSITIES
HISTORIC SEASON
Senior forward
Shinya Kadono will wrap up one of the best offensive seasons in program history on Thursday, as he leads the Pac-12 with 12 goals, 26 points and 55 shots. He also ranks in the top-20 nationally in goals and goals per game. Cal hasn't had a student-athlete pace the conference in both goals and points since Andrew Wiedeman in 2008. Kadono also had one of the most memorable single-match performances in school history when he racked up four goals and nine points in a 6-2 victory over Sac State on Sept. 22. Kadono's goal total is the most by a Cal player since Stefano Bonomo also had 12 in 2014.
TAYLOR'S TALE
Taylor Davila made his presence felt in the penultimate match of his freshman season, registering his first career three-point night with a goal and an assist in Cal's 2-0 win over San Diego State last Sunday. First, he got the Bears on the scoreboard with a one-timer off a cross by sophomore
Christopher Grey, and then got the ball to redshirt freshman
Lucas Churchill off a free kick, and it turned into an assist when Churchill chipped it over the charging Aztec goalie for the score. Davila also had two shots in the previous match at UCLA. He has started all 17 games this season and ranks third among the team's freshmen with 1,205 minutes played. Davila was ranked as the No. 66 recruit in the country by Top Drawer Soccer.
MARK YOUR CALLENDER
Junior goalie
Drake Callender has fought through a nagging groin injury to put together another strong season. He recorded his fourth shutout of the season Sunday at San Diego State to give him 10 for his career, and he ranks third in the Pac-12 with 36 saves. Callender was a United Soccer Coaches NCAA All-Far West Region First Team and All-Pac-12 First Team selection last year.
NUPHAUS GETS CALL FOR U-19 NATIONAL TEAM
Freshman
JJ Foe Nuphaus missed two matches earlier this season after being called up to the U-19 U.S. Men's National Team for an invitational at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Â Nuphaus has spent time with the U-19 team previously, as well as the U-17 and U-14 teams. Nuphaus, who was ranked as the 39th-best player in the country last year by Top Drawer Soccer, has started and played every minute of the eight matches in which he has been available this season.
