Ten Bears Receive Pac-12 All-Academic Honors

BERKELEY – The Cal men's soccer team placed 10 student-athletes on the Pac-12 All-Academic Team on Monday, highlighted by a third consecutive selection for seniors Sam Ebstein, Sam Junqua and Shinya Kadono.

Ebstein earned his second career First Team nod while Junqua garnered First Team honors for the first time in his career after earning Second Team accolades as a sophomore and junior. Ebstein was also Second Team as a junior. Kadono took Honorable Mention for the third straight year.

Joining Junqua and Ebstein on the First Team this year were senior Halil Beqaj and junior Simon Lekressner, who each garnered the honor for the second consecutive season.

Redshirt freshman Lucas Churchill was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team while Kadono was joined on the Honorable Mention list by junior Javier Macias, sophomores Christopher Grey and Tommy Williamson and redshirt freshman Kaleo Fernandez.

To be eligible for Pac-12 All-Academic consideration, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and appear in at least 50 percent of his team's matches.

This marks the third time in four years the Bears have had 10 student-athletes receive Pac-12 All-Academic honors. Cal also had the most players in the conference this season get named to the First Team.

Last month, Beqaj and Ebstein also were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Both are candidates to become Google Cloud Academic All-Americans, which will be announced on Thursday.
