CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – California fought through a slow offensive start to seal its 12th consecutive win of the season in a 4-3 decision over North Carolina to open the second weekend of the Mary Nutter Classic on Friday.

The Bears endured one of its most costly innings, giving up a three-run homer to UNC (5-6) in the bottom of the second allowing the Tarheels a 3-1 lead marking the Bears' first multi-run deficit of the season. It would not be enough to snap Cal's undefeated journey.

In the top of the sixth with a pair of outs and the Bears (12-0) opportunities to score diminishing, junior Bradie Fillmore blasted one past the gates for a three-run homer to bring home Lindsay Rood who reached and advanced on errors and pinch runner Krysten McCue who stepped in after Kobie Pettis drew a walk.

Fillmore's second home run of the season provided the final margin but was also the second of the day for Cal. Freshman Mikayla Coelho knocked one out in the opening frame to give Cal a 2-1 lead recording her second of the season as well.

Despite giving up three-runs, Kamalani Dung was delivered eight strikeouts on the way to her sixth win of the season. Zoe Conley was credited with the save after stepping in the final two frames.
