CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – No. 19 California's 12-game win streak was clipped by No. 6 Texas A&M on Friday in a 5-1 decision at the Mary Nutter Classic.

Cal kept TAMU scoreless for the first two innings, but could not hold the Aggies off further, allowing the most runs in a game this season. Cal, which downed UNC 4-3 in a comeback win earlier in the day, could not dig itself out of a hole against TAMU which scored in four consecutive innings.

Momentum appeared to build for the Bears during the top of the sixth inning as freshman Karlee Sparacino connected on an RBI double to bring Jordan Fines, who was pinch running for Kobie Pettis, across the plate and move things to 4-1. Pettis was nicked by a pitch to get a painful trip to the bag, but unfortunately the Bears left runners eight runners on base through the contest.

Friday's contest marked the first outing against the ranked opponent for Cal this season. The Bears are 5-13 all-time against the Aggies.

Cal's 12-0 run was the first since 2015 and ties for the best since the Bears opened 2012 with a 23-0 record.

Zoe Conley took her first loss of the season finishing with four strikeouts after picking up her third save of the season against the Tarheels.

"We didn't play a clean game," said head coach Diane Ninemire. "But, I'm really happy to know that we can play tough teams. Now it's about what can we bring to the table tomorrow."

The Bears face Cal State Northridge at noon on Saturday, their lone game of the day.
