CORVALLIS, Oregon - After allowing a season-high 91 points in Friday night's loss at No. 6 Oregon, the Cal women's basketball team will look to respond on Sunday, squaring off against No. 16 Oregon State on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers (16-6, 7-4 Pac-12) are also looking to bounce back from a Friday night defeat, falling to No. 24 Stanford, 60-57.
Sunday's game will be the only meeting between the Bears and Beavers during the regular season. Oregon State has owned the matchup as of late, winning the last six matchups between the schools. The Bears and Beavers squared off three times last season, including a 65-49 defeat in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Pac-12 Tournament.
Cal looks to end that skid on Sunday and earn its first win of the season against a ranked foe. At 6-5 in conference play, the Bears are shooting 44.9 percent from the floor this season, tied for the third-highest mark in the Pac-12. Offensively, the Bears have been led this season by juniors
Kristine Anigwe and
Asha Thomas, who are averaging, 16.9 points per game and 11.0 points per game, respectively. Anigwe is among the conference leaders in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage, and enters Sunday's game four rebounds shy of 800 for her career. The junior from Phoenix eclipsed 1,700 career points in Friday's game vs Oregon and is currently seventh on Cal's all-time scoring list.
In the Bears outing vs Oregon, Cal also received big contributions off the bench, as
Jaelyn Brown (14 points) and freshman
Alaysia Styles (12 points) registered season-highs in scoring.
The Bears will look to level their record at 3-3 on the road in conference play, taking on an Oregon State squad that leads the conference in field goal percentage defense. Offensively, the Beavers are also tied for the conference lead in field goal percentage, shooting 49.6 percent from the floor this season.
