Bears Set Five Personal Bests On Day One Of Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. – California track & field posted five personal bests and
Brie Oakley recorded a top-10 time in school history on day one of the Husky Classic on Friday at Dempsey Indoor.
Oakley recorded the fourth-fastest indoor 5000m time in school history as she crossed the line in 16:02.01. Oakley competed in a crowded field featuring nine professionals and some of the top collegians in the country. Oakley, a freshman was able to keep pace as she took 16
th place in her section and 16
th overall in a field of 75 finishers.
Andrew Lind set a personal best in the men's pole vault as he cleared 15-5.75. Lind cleared the height on his first attempt to surpass his previous best of 15-3.50.
Cal started the day in the women's 200m with four finishers in the top 10.
Jackie Patterson led the way with a time of 25.08 as she won her section of the event.
Zion Corrales Nelson took sixth overall with a personal best of 25.10.
Deshae Wise's personal best time of 25.20 was good for eighth while
Jenna Mencarelli took ninth in 25.28 while winning her section.
The men's 200m followed a similar pattern as three Bears finished in the top 10 led by
Paramveer Chohan. Chohan finished .01 off of a career best as he took fourth place with a time of 21.93.
Connor Meech set a new personal best as he crossed the line in 22.08 in sixth place.
Misana Viltz also captured a new personal best with a time of 22.27 and finished eighth.
The Bears will continue action at the Husky Classic on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. on the track and 10 a.m. for field events.
