Cal Evens OSU Series with Run-Rule Shutout
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Bradie Fillmore wanted to insure her home run counted this time and the rest of her teammates got the memo. After Fillmore knocked in a three-run homer to jump on the boards in the top of the third, No. 16 California (24-4) posted a season-high 9-run frame to cement a 12-0 run-rule over conference foe No. 25 Oregon State (18-10) on Saturday, to recover from Friday's loss and even the series to one game apiece.
Â
Fillmore, who now leads the Bears with five home runs, notched her third blasts ball of the weekend to bring home
Jazmyn Jackson and
Mikayla Coelho to open up scoring 3-0. The Idahoan's three-runs would be enough to hold off the Beavers, but the Bears made a statement late in the game.
Â
Cal shared the offensive load, with all nine members of the starting rotation pulled in runs.
Â
After
Karlee Sparacino,
Marcella Kay and
Sabrina Nunez filled the bases with no outs making OSU pay for a pair of fielding errors, Jackson drilled a two RBI single up the middle to begin the scoring frenzy.
Lindsay Rood followed with a triple that brought Jackson and Nunez across the plate and extended the lead to 7-0 with no outs for the Bears.
Â
After a well-placed ball,
Kobie Pettis reached on a fielder's choice, but a rattled Beavers defense allowed Rood to score sliding across home to beat out the throw.
Â
Consecutive singles from Fillmore and
Taurie Pogue loaded the bases, after another fielding error gave Coelho an easy run to the plate for her second score of the game and then Pettis made her way home on passed ball as
Karlee Sparacino was struck out. The strikeout was Cal's first out but by that time the Bears had a 10-0 lead.
Â
Fillmore and Pogue scored the final two runs of the frame to provide the final margin after the Beavers were unable to crawl out of a significant deficit.
A three strikeout day was enough for
Kamalani Dung to earn her 14th consecutive win in the circle and remain undefeated.
Â
Cal closes the weekend in Corvallis with a noon (PT) contest on Sunday.
