Bears Set For Final Road Trip Of Regular Season
BERKELEY - On the final road trip of the regular season, the California women's lacrosse team will face some familiar foes this week. The Golden Bears (4-7, 0-5) will head to Los Angeles to face No. 15 USC on Friday, March 30, and Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., on Sunday, April 1, in rematches from last weekend's contests in Berkeley. Both of this week's games can be seen live on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Bears lost to USC, 10-5, last Friday and they lost to ASU, 12-11, in overtime last Sunday.
The meeting with the Trojans will mark Cal's fourth game against a ranked team in its last five outings (No. 19 Colorado, No. 19 Stanford, No. 13 USC).
Kirsten Swanson is the leading scorer for the Bears, currently boasting 29 points on 23 goals and six assists. She scored twice against the Sun Devils after recording her fourth hat trick of the season against the Trojans.
Swanson is one of 11 goal scorers the Bears have this season. Five of the 11 have 10 or more tallies in 2018.
In the overtime thriller against the Sun Devils, freshman
Nikki Zaccaro posted a career-best seven points on three goals and four assists. On the season, Zaccaro has 17 points on nine goals and eight assists.
The Bears feature some players moving up on the school's career list in multiple categories.
Meredith Haggerty's three caused turnovers against ASU tied her for fourth in school history with 56. Laura Cavallo (2004-07) is third with 59.
Chloe Landry amassed two draws, giving her 119 in her career, good for fourth in school history.
While Haggerty leads the team in caused turnovers with 14,
Elizabeth Koehler paces the Bears in ground balls (24) and draws (40).
Jenny Wilkens made eight saves each against USC and ASU. She has now recorded at least eight saves in 31 career games to go along with her 16 career double-digit save performances. She notched her season best of 13 at UConn earlier this year. Her 107 career ground balls rank fourth all-time in school history, one shy of third.
Cal is 1-5 all-time against USC with the lone win for the Bears coming in the first-ever meeting between the two teams, a 10-7 win in Berkeley in 2013.
The Bears will battle the Trojans first on Friday at 1 p.m. from McAlister Field.
