Cal Drops Series to Washington

SEATTLE – Not only did it rain, it poured during the Golden Bears weekend in Seattle. After game one was delayed and eventually suspended on Friday, No. 23/25 California (26-13, 1-10 Pac-12) did not see the field again until Sunday morning.

The weather improved, but the results were gloomy as Cal dropped the series to the top-ranked Washington Huskies (41-2, 12-2 Pac-12) in a 9-1 run-rule decision, after giving up game one earlier in the day, 3-1.

The Bears were unable to produce much offense recording its lone run in the top of sixth to bring home Lindsay Rood, who also scored the Bears' only run in the first game.

There was not much production on defense from Cal as the Huskies scored runs in 3-of-6 frames, including the opening three to keep Cal at bay. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, UW led 5-1, but belted out four runs to solidify the run-rule and provide the final margin.

Junior pitcher Kamalani Dung received the loss (15-3) after giving up three runs, six hits and three walks. She retired a pair of batters to close her 2.2 innings in the circle before Zoe Conley came in as relief.

The Bears return home to host Utah in a Friday-Sunday series at Levine-Fricke Field starting on April 20 at 3 p.m.
