Anigwe Set For 3x3 National Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Cal junior Kristine Anigwe is among the 48 players headed to Colorado Springs to participate in the 2018 USA Basketball Women's 3x3 National Championships, USA Basketball announced on Wednesday afternoon. Anigwe will be teaming up Connecticut's Napheesa Collier, Louisiville's Asia Durr, and Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale for the two-day competition, held April 21 and 22 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

The 12-team tournament begins with round-robin competition on Saturday morning, while the medal rounds will be held Sunday morning with the championship game slated for 12:50 p.m. MT. The winning team may have the opportunity to represent the U.S. at the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, held June 8-12 in the Philippines. The championship game will be streamed live on usab.com and all games are free and open to the public.

The full schedule and list of participants can be found here.

"I'm really excited and it's a great opportunity to help my game," said Anigwe. "USA Basketball events are always great competition and make you get better each and every game. I'm also excited to play with Napheesa, Asia, and Arike again. We all have a passion for the game and bring something different to the table."

Under FIBA 3x3 rules, each game consists of one 10-minute period and the team leading at the end of that period, or the first team to 21 points, wins. Shots inside the three-point line are worth one point and shots from beyond the arc are worth two points. Free throws are also worth one point. A 12-second shot clock is utilized and if the game ends in a tie, the first team to score two points in overtime wins.

A three-time WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, Anigwe is no stranger to 3x3, participating at the National Championships last summer with Cal teammates Mikayla Cowling, Asha Thomas, and Mi'Cole Cayton. Anigwe previously won silver at the 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, playing alongside Ogunbowale, Erin Boley, and Natlie Chou.

A three-time All-Pac-12 selection and late season nominee for the 2018 Wade Trophy, John R. Wooden Award, Naismith Player of the Year awards, Anigwe led the Bears in scoring (16.7 points per game), rebounding (8.8 rebounds per game), and field goal percentage (56.9 percent) for the third consecutive season. The junior from Phoenix, Arizona, ranked in the top-10 in the Pac-12 in all three categories and finished the season with 11 double-doubles despite averaging only 29 minutes per game. The 6'4" center/forward has also spent time with USA Basketball in five-on-five action, winning gold at both the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships and the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championships.
