BERKELEY – Cal wrapped up a series of 15 productive practices sessions that began in mid-April with the annual Cal Spring Football Game at California Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Cal started the workout with individual and position drills throughout the early portions of practice before running 70 plays during a series of live 11-on-11 periods.

The Cal offense scored three touchdowns and two field goals during the live periods but the defense was able to keep the offense from scoring points on 12 of 17 drives including 10 of the first 11 before the offense scored four times on its final six drives.

Biaggio Ali Walsh picked up the first touchdown of the day on a 19-yard run on the game's fifth drive but the defense would not give up points again until Malik McMorris plunged in from one yard out on the 12th drive of the day. The offense scored again on the next drive when Chris Landgrebe connected on a 30-yard field goal before Ross Bowers connected with Jordan Duncan for a 16-yard touchdown and Gabe Siemieniec closed out the scoring by making a 42-yard field goal.

The defense did not allow a first down on the final drive of the day by the offense with Rusty Becker's second sack of the game on third down the key play of the defensive stop.

Walsh rushed for a game-high 46 yards and the touchdown on six carries, while Derrick Clark had a game-high 14 times for 45 yards to lead the ground game.

Bowers was 6-of-11 for 66 yards and threw the game's lone touchdown pass, while Chase Garbers (8-11, 35), Brandon McIlwain (2-3, 35) and Chase Forrest (2-6, 3) also saw action as all four quarterbacks on the rosters continued to see reps as they did the entire spring.

Clark also had a game-high six receptions for 15 yards and was among eight receivers with at least one catch. Ray Hudson had two catches for a game-high 35 yards with both coming over the middle from McIlwain to set up Siemieniec's 42-yard field goal.

Becker led the defense with seven tackles and a pair of sacks while Alex Funches, Cameron Goode and Ben Moos had one sack each. Cameron Goode forced the lone turnover of the day when he stripped McIlwain and Quentin Tartabull recovered.

The game was televised live by Pac-12 Networks and will re-air several times next week with the first time Monday at 6 pm PT.

Cal will hold training camp in early August before opening its 2018 season Sept. 1 against North Carolina with the first of seven home games at California Memorial Stadium.
