Cal Closes Non-Conference Lineup at Home
BERKELEY – California closes its nonconference slate this week as the team prepares to finish the regular season with a seven-game homestand, opening with a midweek bout against nearby Sacramento State.
Wednesday's contest, which was rained out earlier in the season, begins at 3 p.m. (PT) at Levine-Fricke Field. The game will be live streamed on Pac-12.com.
Cal (33-13, 7-10 Pac-12) opened the season in Sacramento at a Hornets-hosted tournament and downed the host team in a closely-contested eight-inning, 2-1 tie breaker.
After an undefeated weekend at Stanford and riding a seven-game win streak, the Bears hope to open things up in its final nonleague contest to keep the momentum going as it heads into a weekend series with top-ranked UCLA.
The Bears are in good shape to make things happen after outscoring the Cardinal 14-1 over the three-game stretch and look to hard-hitting leadoff
Jazmyn Jackson (.358) to continue her success at the plate after recording a grand slam and solo homer over the weekend.
The Hornets (27-16, 12-6 Big Sky) have also been riding the momentum of recent success after a 2-1 series win over North Dakota State and a sweep of Southern Utah, both league rivals.
With a 26-3 non-conference record, Cal has been lifted against its nonleague opponents with a balanced offense that has outscored opponents 185-43 and strong pitching which has limited rivals to a .178 batting average.
