BERKELEY – Cal head coach Justin Wilcox announced Monday that Jordan Kunaszyk and Patrick Laird have been selected as season captains for the 2018 campaign.

Both Laird and Kunaszyk said being named a season captain "was one of the greatest honors I've ever received in my life."

"Being at this university with the type of coaches and the type of teammates we have, to be named by my teammates as one of the captains of the football team is a true honor and a blessing," Kunaszyk also offered while Laird added "being voted by my teammates to be a captain, it means a lot to me."

"The team voted on those," Wilcox said before later confirming with a smile that he had a vote as well.

Wilcox also announced that Luc Bequette and Patrick Mekari will serve as game captains for the season-opener against North Carolina at California Memorial Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 1.

"There will be a number of guys that rotate thru [being game captains]," Wilcox said. "But Pat [Mekari] and Luc Bequette are guys that have really done a great job, good representatives of our team."
