LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- California's 12 saves weren't enough to help field hockey past the No. 2 Tar Heels as the Golden Bears fell, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Louisville's Trager Stadium.
Goalkeepers
Natalie Dalton and
Danielle Mentink combined for 12 saves against a North Carolina team that tallied 27 total shots in the game. Dalton earned the start and played 50 minutes, allowing four goals with 11 saves, while Mentink played the final 20 minutes with two goals allowed and one save.
UNC saw goals from Catherine Hayden (5', 33'), Marissa Creatore (15'), Ashley Hoffman (47'), Erin Matson (53') and Leila Evans (67'). Four of those goals came from UNC's nine penalty corners.
Cal drew six corners of its own, with
Megan Rodgers accounting for five of the team's eight total shots.
Melina Moore,
Femke Delissen and
Gabi Jimenez also tallied shots.
