CAL DEFENSE PROVING STINGY IN 2019
- Cal has held 12 straight opponents under 25 points, five of those have been held under 15 points and four did not score more than a single touchdown. This is the longest active streak in the country and tied for the longest since 2013.
- The Bears are holding opponents to 18.6 points per game, despite going up against some high-scoring offenses. Cal's four opponents are averaging 32.1 points per game in all other 2019 contests, 13.50 more than they average against Cal's defense.
- The Bears have been stingy inside the red zone, holding teams to only seven touchdowns in 17 red zone appearances, good for a 41.1% rate of touchdowns allowed.
- The Cal defense has stopped opponents from generating explosive plays, holding teams to three or fewer 20+ yard plays in four of five games this season: UC Davis (2), Washington (2), North Texas (3) and Arizona State (3).

CAL OFFENSE GENERATING EXPLOSIVE PLAYS
- Last season, Cal generated five or more explosive plays of 20+ yards in three of the team's 13 games, it did that in each of their first two games of the 2019 season.

- The Bears generated five 20+ yard plays in the win over No. 14/12 Washington.
- Cal notched four 20+ yard plays vs. Ole Miss, including a 60-yard TD pass from Garbers to Tonges.
- Cal is 13-14 in converting in the red zone, scoring nine touchdowns and hitting four field goals, including the game-winning 17-yard field goal to defeat Washington.
- Cal did not turn the ball over vs. Washington or North Texas, it was the first time the Bears recorded back-to-back zero turnover games since the final two games of the 2016 season.
- The Bears have 0 or 1 turnovers in four of five games in 2019, they did that only four times in 2018.

- He has 20 more tackles than the next most in the country.

- He stuffed Ole Miss' John Rhys Plumlee on a QB sneak from the 1-yard line as time expired to preserve the first Pac-12 victory on the road at an SEC school since 2010 and was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

He was named National Defensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Award, Chuck Bednarik Award, the Nagurski Trophy, College Sports Madness and he was the Reese's Senior Bowl Defensive Senior-of-the-Week and the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.

TAKERS HIGHLIGHT DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT
