BERKELEY - The California football team will take on Oregon State on Saturday morning at California Memorial Stadium. The game willl kick off at 11:30 a.m. PT with the Bears looking to break a two-game losing streak and earn their second Pac-12 win of the year.Ā
CAL SET TO HOST BEAVERS FOR HOMECOMING GAME AT CALIFORNIA MEMORIAL STADIUM
- Cal Athletics will be giving away Oski bobbleheads to the first 10,000 fans at Saturday's game. Ā
- Cal will be hosting its first ever Student-Athlete Alumni Reunion as part of homecoming weekend.
- Cal leads the all-time series vs. Oregon State, 38-33.
- The Bears have won four of the past five matchups vs. the Beavers and three of the past four between the two schools at California Memorial Stadium.Ā
- This will be Cal's second game that will kickoff in the 11 a.m. hour locally this year. The Bears defeated Ole Miss, 28-20, with a game that kicked off at 11 a.m. CT/9 a.m. PT earlier this year.Ā
- Cal's coaching staff has some connection to the state of Oregon, head coach
Justin Wilcox played safety and cornerback at Oregon (1996-99). In 1999, he was named second-team All-Pac-10 and earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors.

Peter Sirmon played at Oregon (1996-99) and was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior for the Ducks.Ā

Steve Greatwood graduated from Oregon in 1980. The Eugene native coached 32 seasons over three stints at Oregon, including 25 years as the offensive line coach and five years as the defensive line coach.
DEFENSIVE LOCK DOWN
- Cal has held 13 straight opponents under 25 points, five of those have been held under 15 points and four did not score more than a single touchdown. This is the longest active streak in the country and the 12th-longest streak in conference history dating back to 1980.
- The Bears are holding opponents to 18.3 points per game, despite going up against some high-scoring offenses. Cal's four opponents are averaging 33.7 points per game in all other 2019 contests, 15.4 more than they average against Cal's defense.Ā
- The Bears have been stingy inside the red zone, holding teams to only nine touchdowns in 22 red zone appearances, good for a 40.9% rate of touchdowns allowed.
- The Cal defense has stopped opponents from generating explosive plays, holding teams to three or fewer 20+ yard plays in four of six games this season: UC Davis (2), Washington (2), North Texas (3) and Arizona State (3).
- The Bears led Oregon, 7-0, at the half ā the first time they have shut out an opponent in the first half this season. It was also the first time Oregon had been shut out at home in the first half since 2004.

Evan Weaver leads the nation in total tackles (84) and ranks second in solo tackles (48) and total tackles per game (14.0). He is third in solo tackles per game (8.0).
- Has eight more tackles than the next most in the country, but the two closest players have both played seven games to Weaver's six.Ā
- Recorded double-digit tackles for 12 straight games, a streak that ended at Oregon.Ā
- Weaver has three 15+ tackle games, most in the country (22 vs. Ole Miss, 18 vs. Washington, 15 vs. Arizona State).

OFFENSE STARTS EXPLOSIVELY AND TAKES CARE OF THE BALL
- Last season, Cal generated five or more explosive plays of 20+ yards in three of the team's 13 games, it did that three times in the team's first six games this year.Ā
- Cal opened the season with seven explosive plays of 20+ yards vs. UC Davis. That was more than the Bears had in all but one game during the 2018 season (Oregon State, 8).Ā
- The Bears generated five 20+ yard plays vs. both No. 14/12 Washington and No. 13/13 Oregon.
- Cal notched four 20+ yard plays vs. Ole Miss, including a 60-yard TD pass from Garbers to Tonges.
- Cal is 13-15 in converting in the red zone, scoring nine touchdowns and hitting four field goals, including the game-winning 17-yard field goal to defeat Washington.

Devon Modster has two career starts (vs. Utah and vs. Kansas State while at UCLA). 51-79 (65%), with 671 yards and 4 touchdowns with no interceptions at UCLA.Ā
- Modster took over for Josh Rosen in the second half of UCLA's game vs. Cal and led UCLA to a 30-27 victory at the Rose Bowl. He completed 14-18 passes for 191 yards in that game.Ā
- Modster started his first game at Cal on the road at No. 13/13 Oregon and went 17/34 for 190 yards and a touchdown. Prior to that, Modster's last start was in the 2017 Cactus Bowl vs. Kansas State.
- Modster was the first Bears' backup QB to start a game due to injury in 79 games, since

- Cal's linebacker unit was ranked among the nation's best this preseason as Athlon rates them No. 7 and Phil Steele has them ranked eighth.Ā

Kuony Deng has been a standout in six games with the Bears. He ranks 26th in the country in solo tackles per game (5.5) and 34th in total tackles (9.0), he also tallied 2.5 sacks (tied for 11th in the Pac-12), 3.5 TFLs, two quarterback hurries and two pass breakups.Ā
- Deng has four games with 9+ tackles and two games with 12 tackles in the first six contests. He has also recorded at least 1.0 TFLs in four of the past five games.Ā
