Forte Sets New Career-High In Loss At UCLA

The Redshirt Sophomore Tallies 17 Kills.

LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Lauren Forte set a new career-high with 17 kills, but it wasn't enough for No. 15 California in a 19-25, 20-25, 27-25, 20-25 loss to UCLA on Sunday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.

The Bears (17-3, 7-3 Pac-12) got 13 kills and nine digs from AVCA National Player of the Week Mima Mirkovic, while Forte added eight block assists. Junior Preslie Anderson tallied nine kills and senior Maddie Haynes added eight for Cal.

UCLA (12-7, 7-3 Pac-12) was led by a match-high 21 kills from Mac May.

Trailing 24-22, Cal fought off two match points in the third and took a 25-24 lead on a block by Haynes and Anderson. Following a UCLA point, the Bears went up 26-25 on an Anderson kill and took the set on a Bruin attack error.

Forte passed her previous career-high of 14 kills set earlier this season on Oct. 11 at Maples Pavilion in a 3-0 win over Arizona State.

Up Next: The Bears return to action on Friday with a 7 p.m. first serve against Oregon inside Haas Pavilion.
