Anigwe Named To Top 10

Senior In Contention For 2019 Lisa Leslie Award For Nation’s Top Center

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts  - Cal senior Kristine Anigwe has been named the 10-player midseason list for the 2019 Lisa Leslie Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Friday. Named after the three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year, the Lisa Leslie Award is in its second year and recognizes the top centers in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. South Carolinas A'ja Wilson won the inaugural award in 2018.
A national committee comprising of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.

The winner of the 2019 Lisa Leslie Center Award will be revealed in partnership with the WBCA during the 2019 Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida. Also a candidate for the 2019 Wade Trophy and recently named to both the John R. Wooden Award Women's Late Season Top 20 and Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason, Anigwe leads the nation in both rebounding (15.8 rebounds per game) and double-doubles (23) this season, and is seventh in scoring at 22.8 points per game. Anigwe is on pace to join former Oklahoma standout Courtney Paris as the only players in Division I basketball over the last 20 years to average at least 22 points and 15 rebounds per game over the course of a season. A three-time WBCA Honorable Mention All-American, Anigwe has posted a double-double in 24 consecutive games, the fifth-longest double-double streak in Division I women's basketball history.

Last weekend, Anigwe cemented her place in the Cal record books, breaking the school's all-time scoring and rebounding records in the same weekend. Already among the Pac-12 all-time leaders in both categories, and trails Leslie by just 40 points on the Pac-12 career scoring list. Anigwe is averaging 24.3 points per game and 17.8 rebounds per game in Pac-12 play, and is coming off a 31-point, 18-rebound performance against Oregon State her last time out.

Anigwe and the Golden Bears will be back in action on Friday night, taking on USC (14-9, 4-8 Pac-12) at 8 p.m. PT at the Galen Center in Los Angeles
