Cal Ventures To The East Coast This Week
The Bears Will Face George Washington And Mount St. Mary's
BERKELEY - The California women's lacrosse team is in the midst of a stretch of playing four of five road games. This week, the Golden Bears venture to the east coast to face George Washington on Friday, March 1, at 11 a.m. PT and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, March 3, at 9 a.m. PT.
The Bears are 4-1 all-time vs. George Washington and 2-1 all-time vs. Mount St. Mary's.
Cal picked up its first win of the season last Friday against UC Davis, a 16-13 victory over the Aggies. After the Bears took a 12-7 lead with 21 minutes left in regulation, they held off a surge by the Aggies and never gave up the lead.
Caroline Corzel led the way for the Bears offensively with five points, while
Kirsten Swanson collected four points and eight ground balls. She scored all of Cal's goals during the first 20 minutes of the second half.
In the last three games, the Bears have outscored their opponents, 10-4 combined, in the first 10 minutes of each contest.
Corzel paces the Bears in scoring with 13 points (11 goals, 2 assists). After notching a conference single-game best of 11 shots vs. San Diego State, she ranks second in the Pac-12 in shots per game (7.60).
Eliza Christman posted a single-game career-high eight draws vs. Denver and ranks tied for fourth in the Pac-12 in that category (4.00).
Cal opens Pac-12 play next week with a three-game homestand against Oregon, Colorado and Stanford. The game against the Cardinal will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
