Anderson And Schwenke Super Bowl LIII Champions
28 Former Golden Bears Now Have A Combined 36 Super Bowl Rings
ATLANTA – Former Cal players Stephen Anderson and
Brian Schwenke are Super Bowl champions after New England's 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Anderson and Schwenke both picked up their first Super Bowl rings. A total of 28 former Cal players have now captured 36 Super Bowl rings including 21 rings over the last 19 seasons.
Neither Anderson nor Schwenke played in Super Bowl LIII with Anderson on the 53-player roster but inactive on gameday and Schwenke on injured reserve. Anderson had spent the entire regular season on the Patriots' practice squad before being promoted to the 53-man roster prior to their first playoff game while Schwenke played in three regular-season games off the bench.
Jared Goff and C.J. Anderson both played in Super Bowl LIII for the Rams with Goff becoming the fifth different former Cal quarterback to start in the Super Bowl the first time he played in the game to give the Golden Bears two more starting quarterbacks than any other college football program in the country. Goff completed 19-of-38 passes for 229 yards with one interception. Anderson finished with seven rushes for 22 yards as well as two receptions for 12 yards. He was playing in his second Super Bowl after being a winner with the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.
