BERKELEY - California track and field kicks off its 2019 outdoor season this weekend at home as the team hosts the California Outdoor Opener at Edwards Stadium.

Field events commence at 9 a.m. with the men's hammer throw event, while track events begin at 12:40 p.m. with the women's 2000m steeplechase.

Many Bears will be making their season debuts, while Cal will also be showcasing several of its veteran members. Cal is wrapping up its indoor season — raking in three MPSF Indoor Championship Titles last weekend and qualifying three for the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend — and heading into full gear for the outdoor season.

Cal will be hosting UC Davis, St. Marys, Santa Clara, USF, and Academy of Art on Saturday.

Jasher Foster, who claimed the 60m hurdle title at last week's championships will be competing in the 110m hurdles as well as the 100m dash. Foster's performance helped bolster the Bears into a tie for third at the MPSF Championship. Misana Viltz will compete alongside Foster in both events after taking fourth in the 60m hurdles last weekend.

Paramveer Chohan will be competing in the 400m hurdles on Saturday. He notched a school record with a mark of 46.78 in the open 400m last weekend as he claimed a runner-up finish at the MPSF Championship.

Garrett Corcoran, a seasoned long-distance runner, is also coming off of competing at the Indoor Championships and is slated to compete in the 1500m event. Corcoran will look to defend his 2018 title in the event, where he won with a time of 3:48.76. Additionally, Corcoran will be competing in his third and final Cal Opener.

Annie Boos will be competing in the first action for the track events in the 2000m steeplechase. She holds the second-place mark in the 3000m steeplechase in school history as she set the school record last year.

Malik McMorris will be making his 2019 outdoor debut following his 2018 campaign with Cal football. McMorris, who took third in the discus at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, will be competing alongside his brother Hakim McMorris. Hakim, a multis athlete, will be making his Cal debut by competing in the javelin, long jump and the 110m hurdles.

Noelle Schiller is set to take off in the long jump, though Schiller competed in both long jump and triple jump during the indoor season. She was a part of the squad that earned a 10th place finish in the 2019 MPSF Indoor Championships. Schiller won two long jump competitions during the indoor season as she claimed the crown at both the UW Invitational and the Last Chance College Elite Meet.

Cal's Tuomas Kaukolahti, McKay Johnson, and Tyler Brendel will be concluding their indoor seasons at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, next week.
