WACO, Texas After opening the opening the 2019 NCAA Tournament with an emphatic First Round win over North Carolina on Saturday, the Cal women's basketball team looks to carry its momentum into Monday, taking on No. 1 Baylor at 8 p.m. CT/6 p.m. PT at the Ferrell Center. A trip to the Sweet Sixteen awaits the winner of Monday's game, which will be the third all-time meeting between Cal and Baylor in the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Bears (20-10, 9-9 Pac-12) are the eight-seed in the Greensboro Region while the Lady Bears (31-1, 18-0 Big 12) are the overall No. 1 seed in the 2019 NCAA Tournament and are ranked No. 1 in both the Associated Press and USA TODAY Polls.

The most recent meeting between the teams came in the Second Round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament in Waco. Baylor, the region's top seed, knocked off the nine-seed Golden Bears, 86-46, to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Kristine Anigwe was the lone scorer in double-figures for the Bears, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the final game of her sophomore season.

Cal opened the 2019 NCAA Tournament with a 92-72 victory over North Carolina, erasing an early 12-point deficit. Four players scored in double-figures for the Bears in the win, led by 19 points from senior Asha Thomas. All-American center Angiwe scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half and added 22 rebounds to extend her double-double streak to 33 in a row. With her 22 rebounds – the sixth-highest single-game total in NCAA Tournament history – Anigwe set a new Pac-12 single-season rebounding record with 528 total rebounds on the year. Jaelyn Brown added 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting while CJ West had a season-high 13 points off the bench. Grad transfer Recee Caldwell added nine points and dished out 12 assists, the most by any player in an NCAA Tournament game in the last two seasons.

Baylor opened the tournament with a 95-38 victory over 16-seed Adeline Christian, jumping out to an early 20-0 lead. Five different players scored in double-figures for the Lady Bears in the win, led by 17 points and 11 rebounds from All-Big 12 center Kalani Brown.

SCOUTING THE LADY BEARS
The Lady Bears enter the NCAA Tournament on a 24-game winning streak, the longest active winning streak in the nation. Ranked No. 1 in both the AP and USA TODAY Polls, Baylor's lone loss of the season came on December 15 at Maples Pavilion, a 68-63 defeat to Stanford.

Baylor has won 38 consecutive games at home, the second-longest active home winning streak in the nation, its last loss at the Ferrell Center coming on February 6, 2017, against Texas.

Baylor has four players averaging double-figures this season, led by Kalani Brown at 15.8 points per game. Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Cox is second on the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game and is also
averaging 8.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game on the year. Brown and Cox are combining for 16.2 rebounds per game this season for a Baylor squad that leads the nation in rebounding margin (+16.8 rebounds per game).

Head coach Kim Mulkey is in her 19th season as head coach at Baylor, leading the Lady Bears to two national championships in 2005 and 2012.

UP NEXT
The winner of Saturday's Second Round game will take on four-seed South Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen. Cal is looking to make its third trip to the Sweet Sixteen and first since 2013.
