Bears Head to The Farm for Regular Season Finale
BERKELEY – California concludes a commendable regular season this Saturday with a dual against No. 2 Stanford at The Farm.
After closing its home slate last Saturday, highlighted by
Darren Wong's third all-around meet title of the year and the team's season-best vault of 70.050, the Golden Bears look to build on that momentum as it prepares for a tough postseason.
"With this last meet of the regular season, we hope to solidify our process of preparation and execution," said head coach
JT Okada. "This week, many of our gymnasts have pushed themselves to refine their routines and prepare to finish the regular season and anticipate the postseason."
Cal's outlook has been favorable throughout the season with five improved team scores against a stout field. The Bears pulled in a two 400-plus scores so far, after missing the mark completely in 2018.
A large part of the success is due to newcomer and reigning MPSF Gymnast of the Week Wong, who has recorded at least one career note in six of the last seven meets.
Senior
Aaron Mah has also been a stable force for Cal bring in meet titles on several events throughout the season. Mah punctuated his time in Haas Pavilion with a huge hit on high bar to finish his Senior Night.
Both Wong and Mah have also pulled in some competitive national scores with Mah ranked 13th in the high bar (13.833). Wong ranks third in the all-around (81.350) and 10th on floor (14.433).
The Bears have posted notable performances at Burnham Pavilion, particularly in its first meet there this season. Wong titled in the all-around with five career-highs that have since been surpassed, while senior
Harrison Plate shared the ring title with Stanford's Thomas Lee.
Cal has not beat Stanford since Feb. 18, 2012, but will have another shot on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (PT). The meet will be streamed on Pac-12.com.
