LOS ANGELES – California suffered through another closely-contested heartbreaker on Saturday night as it gave up game 2 against top-ranked UCLA on Saturday night, allowing the Bruins to clinch the series.

The Golden Bears (20-14, 1-6 Pac-12) were unable to plate a runner through seven despite putting a pair of runners into scoring position in the top of the fourth inning with one out.

The most disheartening moment of the night, however, came in the top of the seventh when Cal's Destiny Blueford, who stepped in to pinch run for Makena Smith, made it to the hot corner.

With two outs on the board, sophomore Sabrina Nunez knocked one in play and appeared to leg out the single to allow Blueford to come home on the tying run, but Nunez was called out at the bag.

UCLA (31-1, 5-0 Pac-12) scored in the bottom of the third after singling to lead off and pick up its first hit on the game. The Bruins runner then stole second and advanced to the hot corner on a ground out.

Cal committed one of two errors on the throw and allowed the lone run of the game to come home.

Kamalani Dung (8-6) picked up the loss giving up four hits and two walks in 6.0 innings.

The Bears return to Easton on Sunday for their getaway-day game at 1 p.m. (PT). Action will be live on the Pac-12 Networks.
