Bears Open Pac-12s With Record-Breaking Swim
Cal Sets New Conference Standard In 800 Freestyle Relay
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Cal men's swimming and diving team set a Pac-12 Conference and Pac-12 Championships record in the 800 yard freestyle relay as the conference meet kicked off Wednesday night at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Junior Zheng Quah, senior
Andrew Seliskar, sophomore
Trenton Julian and senior
Mike Thomas clocked in a time of 6:10.94, shattering the previous conference record of 6:11.64 set by USC in 2015.
The Bears also held the previous standard at the Pac-12 Championships, set in 2017 by
Long Gutierrez, Seliskar,
Michael Jensen and
Ryan Murphy in a time of 6:12.07.
The record-breaking race was also the fastest time clocked in the country this season.
The victory in the 800 freestyle relay made it a clean sweep of the first night for the Bears, who also won the 200 yard medley relay. Sophomore

Pawel Sendyk and sophomore
Ryan Hoffer won the race with a time of 1:23.44, edging out USC.
Quah and Seliskar were part of Cal's winning 800 freestyle relay team last year at the Pac-12 Championships while Carr and Hoffer repeated the feat in the 200 medley relay.
The Bears stand in third place after diving events and two relays with 137 points, behind Arizona State (187 points) and Stanford (160). The first full day of racing takes place Thursday with the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay.
