Biography
Cal Success:
- Wrapped up a standout Cal career in 2017 by earning All-America honors in the 800 free relay and 200 free (HM) at the NCAA Championships.
- Scored for the Bears in the 200 free by making the "B" final at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Took sixth in the heat.
- Led off Cal's 800 free relay that placed third at NCAAs, posting a season-best time of 1:33.31 that tied him with Andrew Seliskar for the team's top time of the season in the 200.
- Also competed in the 50 and 100 free at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
- Helped the Bears win the 2017 Pac-12 title in the 800 free relay.
- Was a major contributor for the Bears as a junior in 2016, winning three relay titles (400 and 800 free as well as 400 medley) at the Pac-12 Championships.
- Competed at the 2016 NCAA Championships and made the "B" final in the 200 freestyle, finishing fourth in the heat to score five team points. Narrowly missed the "B" final in the 100 and 200 butterfly. Also competed on the 200 and 400 free relays as well as the 400 medley relay.
- Owned the team's top time in the 200 freestyle (1:32.74 at NCAAs) in 2016 as well as the team's second-best time in the 100 free, 100 fly and 200 fly,Â
- Made a big impact for the Bears in 2014-15, contributing in both the freestyle and butterfly.
- Competed in three individual events (200 freestyle, 200 butterfly, 500 freestyle) as well as Cal's top 800 freestyle relay team at the 2015 NCAA Championships.Â
- 2015 Pac-12 champion in the 200 butterfly also placed second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 800 freestyle relay at the conference meet.
International Success:Â
- Was part of a large Cal men's swimming contingent at the 2016 Rio Olympics as he competed for Mexico in his first Olympic appearance.
- Qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the butterfly by posting a FINA "A" time in the summer of 2015.
- Was a member of Mexico 2013 National World Championships Team and competed in Barcelona, swimming the 200m free.
- Holds 10 Mexico national age group records after joining Mexico swimming federation in 2011.
High School Success:
- Swam at Brighton High School and holds the Utah high school record in the 100 and 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 400 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay.
- Was named Utah high school swimmer of the year for three straight years.
- Was a 16-time High School All-American.
- Currently holds a total of 50 individual Utah swimming records: three high school records, 28 short course records and 19 long course records.
