Bears Find Success In San Diego
Cal Varsity Eight Tops Talented Field At Crew Classic
SAN DIEGO – The Cal women's rowing team capped off a strong showing at the San Diego Crew Classic with a victory in the women's varsity eight. The defending NCAA Champions in the eight, the Golden Bears won the Women's Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup over an impressive field also featuring Washington and Texas. Testing its speed and depth against top crews from across the country, Cal also finished third in the second varsity eight while the varsity four and third varsity eight finished fifth in their respective grand finals.
"The Crew Classic had its strongest field in a long time, so it was good for the team to get a feel for what NCAAs will be like," said Cal head coach
Al Acosta. "The team vibe is good now and we're looking forward to another tough weekend with Stanford and Brown at the Lake Natoma Invitational."
The Bears will be back in action this coming weekend at Lake Natoma, racing in the annual Lake Natoma Invitational on April 13 and 14.
