SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After three scoreless innings, California managed to find enough of an offense to hold off Santa Clara in its final nonconference game of the season.

Without a comfortable lead through the stretch, the Golden Bears (27-25) clung to a one-run advantage that would be enough for its 86th consecutive victory over the Broncos (12-32).

Sabrina Nunez brought in the lone run of the game on a two-out RBI single to get Jordan Fines home from the hot corner. Fines reached on an error and advanced to scoring position on a sac bunt from junior Destiny Blueford.

Nunez recorded one of three hits for the Bears who had trouble finding offense consistently to widen its lead.

Cal left 11 runners on base in the outing and relied on defense to hold things off. Cal went through three pitchers, before finding a reliable rhythm in the circle.

Freshman Alexandra Perez picked up the win after pitching 1.2 innings and giving up two hits and one walk. Kamalani Dung came in as relief giving up a hit and throwing four strikeouts to pick up the save. Senior Kourtney Shaw opened in the circle and went for 2.0 innings, giving up two walks and a hit before being relieved by Perez.

Cal ends the regular season at Arizona State this weekend in a Friday-Sunday series. The games will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
