CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cal women's basketball team heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend, tipping off the road trip with a 7 p.m. PT matchup at No. 8 Oregon State on Friday night. The Golden Bears (8-7, 0-4 Pac-12) look to snap a four-game skid and pick up their first conference win of the year while the Beavers (15-1, 3-1 Pac-12) seek to bounce back from their first loss of the season Sunday at Arizona State.
Friday's game at Gil Coliseum will be the first of two matchups this season between the Bears and Beavers. Cal leads the all-time series between the schools, 38-36, though Oregon State has had the upperhand as of late, winning the last eight meetings between the schools. The Beavers won last season's meeting in Berkeley, 82-74, prevailing in a back-and-forth affair that saw five lead changes. The Bears have lost on their last four trips to Corvallis and are looking for their first win at Gill Coliseum since 2013.
No stranger to steep competition, Friday's game against the eighth-ranked Beavers is Cal's sixth game of the season against a Top-25 opponent and the Bears' fourth in a row against a team ranked in the Top-10 of the Associated Press poll. Cal is 1-4 on the season against ranked opponents, with an upset win over No. 20 Arkansas on November 24.
The Bears look to respond after getting swept in the Battle of the Bay against rival Stanford. The fifth-ranked Cardinal opened the home-and-home with 73-40 victory at Maples Pavilion. The Bears responded with a hard-fought effort on Sunday back in Berkeley, before ultimately falling to Stanford, 79-65. Three players scored in double-figures for the Bears in the loss:
Jaelyn Brown (14 points),
Sara Anastasieska (13 points), and
Cailyn Crocker (11 points).
Brown has been a leader for the Bears on both ends of the court this season and ranks ninth in the Pac-12 in scoring, averaging 14.7 points per game on the season. The senior from Murrieta, California, is also averaging six rebounds per game on the year and added a pair of blocked shots on Sunday against the Cardinal. Brown leads the conference in free throw percentage this season, shooting 83.1 percent from the charity stripe.
As a team, Cal has been aggressive in getting to the foul line and capitalizing on those opportunities. The Bears went 18-20 (90%) from the foul line on Sunday against Stanford and rank fourth in the Pac-12 in free throw percentage at 74.7 percent on the season.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Oregon State returns home looking to shake off its first loss of the season. One of the last two unbeaten teams in the nation entering last weekend, the Beavers saw their 15-game winning streak come to an end in Sunday's 55-47 loss at Arizona State. Mikayla Pivec and Destiny Slocum led Oregon State with 13 points each, as the Beavers shot a season-low 31% from the floor. Ranked third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (35.8 percent), Oregon State went just 2-for-20 (10 percent) from beyond the arc on Sunday.
A senior guard, Pivec leads the Pac-12 in rebounding this season with 10.1 rebounds per game, while also pacing the Beavers and ranking in the Top-10 in the conference in both scoring (15.3 points per game) and assists (5.4 assists per game). Slocum, a redshirt junior who had 26 points against the Bears last season, is second on the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game and is shooting 38.9 percent from three-point range. Freshman forward/center Taylor Jones has been a steady presence for the Beavers on the interior, averaging 13.9 points per game and 8.3 rebounds. Jones leads the Pac-12 with 2.0 blocked shots per game and is shooting 60.4 percent from the floor this season, good for third in the Pac-12.
Oregon State is a perfect 10-0 at home this season and enters the weekend on a 17-game home winning streak, the third-longest active home winning streak in the nation.
Scott Ruek is in his 10th season as head coach of the Beavers, and returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last season. Oregon State was picked third in the Preseason Pac-12 Coaches Poll.

Cal continues its road swing on Sunday, taking on No. 6 Oregon at 2 p.m. PT at Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks have won 29 of their last 30 games at home and enter the week on an 11-game home winning streak. The preseason favorite to win the Pac-12, Oregon (13-2, 3-1 Pac-12) hosts No. 3 Stanford on Thursday night before Sunday's matchup with the Bears. Oregon has won three of the lat four matchups with Cal, with the Bears' last win over the Ducks coming in Eugene in February 2017.
