BERKELEY – Following a narrow loss to Utah on Friday afternoon, the Cal women's basketball team looks to return to its winning ways on Sunday, hosting Colorado at 12 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears (8-10, 0-7 Pac-12) fell to the Utes, 71-62, in Friday's School Haas Rock game, coming up short in a game that saw seven ties and 10 lead changes. They now take on a Buffaloes squad (13-5, 2-5 Pac-12) coming off a narrow loss of its own. Colorado opened its road trip with a 76-68 loss to Stanford in overtime Friday night on the Farm.

Cal leads the overall series with Colorado, 12-7, and has won the last two head-to-head meetings between the teams. The Bears won the lone matchup between the schools last season in Boulder, an 80-60 victory in which Cal connected on 11 of 14 attempts from three-point range.

The Bears will look to find that shooting touch again on Sunday, as they remain in search of their first conference win of the year. Friday's game against Utah saw Cal take a 29-28 lead into the locker room, but the visiting Utes outscored the Bears 43-33 in the second half to come away with the win. Redshirt senior Sara Anastasieska – who led the Bears with 22 points – hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 6:40 left to play, but Utah closed the game on a 13-3 run. Anastasieska went 4-10 from beyond the arc in her highest-scoring outing ever in Pac-12 play. Cal also received significant offensive contributions from junior forward Alaysia Styles and freshman guard Jazlen Green, who poured in 12 points each. Redshirt senior Chen Yue led the Bears and matched her career high with 10 rebounds on the day.

Rebounding will be in the spotlight on Sunday as the Bears go up against a Colorado squad that ranks third in the conference in offensive rebounding. The Buffs outrebounded Stanford, 36-32, on Friday night and scored 16 second-chance points off 20 offensive rebounds.

Sunday's matchup is also the first game in a doubleheader at Haas Pavilion with the Cal men's basketball team. The Golden Bear men take on Stanford at 3 p.m. PT.

SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES
Colorado heads to Berkeley looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking 76-68 overtime loss at No. 6 Stanford on Friday night. The Buffs led for over 29 minutes of game action and led the Cardinal by as many as 8 points, but were outscored by the Cardinal 12-4 in overtime. Colorado freshman Jaylyn Sherrod led the Buffs with 21 points and seven assists, going 8-16 from the floor. A freshman, Sherrod, is averaging 10.7 points per game this season and has upped her scoring average to 12.9 points per game in conference play. Mya Hollingshed, a junior forward from Houston, added 15 points against the Cardinal and hit a go-ahead three-pointer with just seconds left in regulation. Hollingshed leads Colorado in both scoring (13.8 points per game) and rebounding (6.8 rebounds per game) this season. Aubrey Knight also scored in double-figures on Friday, finishing with 12 points.

Colorado went a perfect 11-0 during the non-conference campaign and extended its winning streak to 12 in a row with an 80-70 road win over Utah in its Pac-12 opener. The Buffs fell on the road at Oregon and Oregon State before picking up their second conference win with a 66-53 victory over USC.

Colorado leads the Pac-12 in free throw attempts per game (17.6 FTA) but is shooting only 67% from the line this season, which ranks 10th in the conference.

The Buffs rank third in the conference with 15.1 offensive rebounds per game and fourth in total rebounds per game (41.7 rebounds per game). Colorado outrebounded Stanford, 36-32, on Friday night, including a 20-17 advantage in offensive rebounds.

Head coach JR Payne is in her fourth season with the Buffs, and returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last season. Colorado was picked 12th in the Preseason Pac-12 Coaches Poll.
