BOULDER, Colo. – After opening the month with a road victory in Seattle, the Cal women's basketball team returns to action on the road Friday night, taking on Colorado at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT. The Golden Bears (9-14, 1-11 Pac-12) are 1-4 on the road in conference play, but earned the victory on their last road trip when they downed Washington, 81-74 in overtime on February 2. They will take on a Colorado (14-9, 3-9 Pac-12) squad that is 7-4 at home this season, but winless in its last four outings overall.
Colorado's last victory came in Berkeley on January 26, when the teams squared off for the first time this season. The Bears led 20-16 after the first quarter, but were outscored 46-30 over the final 30 minutes as the visitors came away with the win. Colorado's Emma Clarke led all scorers with 14 points while
Jaelyn Brown (12 points) and
Evelien Lutje Schipholt (11 points, 8 rebounds) both scored in double-figures for the Bears.
The Bears head to Boulder looking to secure the season split and have had success in Boulder as of late. Cal has won each of its last two road games with Colorado and has prevailed in four of its last five road games against the Buffs.
Eying its second conference win, the Bears will also look to build upon a strong showing in Sunday's overtime loss to No. 10 UCLA. Trailing by as many as 11 points on the afternoon, Cal clawed back to take the 10
th-ranked Bruins to overtime before ultimately falling, 74-70 in its second overtime game of the season. Four different players scored in double-figures for the Bears: Brown (17 points),
Cailyn Crocker (12 points),
CJ West (11 points), and
Leilani McIntosh (11 points). West – who did not play in the matchup with Colorado earlier this season due to a concussion – grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds against UCLA, including a career-high eight offensive rebounds. The Bears dominated the Bruins on the glass all afternoon and finished with a season-high 55 rebounds.
Cal has now outrebounded its opponent in three of the last four games and ranks fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds (13.8 offensive rebounds/game). The Bears' last three games have all been decided by fewer than 10 points, with Brown – the ninth leading scorer in the conference this season – averaging 19.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game over that stretch.

SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES
Colorado heads into the weekend looking to snap a four-game losing streak. Since their 62-50 victory over the Bears on January 26, the Buffs have dropped four in a row, including 61-52 loss at Washington on Sunday. Three players scored in double-figures for the Buffs, led by 13 points and seven rebounds from Maya Hollingshed. Jaylyn Sherrod and Charlotte Whittaker scored 11 points each, but it was not enough to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit. Colorado committed 20 turnovers on the day, which the Huskies turned into 19 points off turnovers.
Hollingshed, a junior forward, leads the Buffs in both scoring (13.6 points per game) and rebounding (6.7 rebounds per game) this season, while also shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc. Emma Clarke – who scored a game-high 14 points against the Bears earlier this season – is second on the team in scoring at 10.7 points per game while Sherrod, a freshman guard, is also averaging double-digit points at 10.1 points per game.
Colorado went a perfect 11-0 during the non-conference campaign and extended its winning streak to 12 in a row with an 80-70 road win over Utah in its Pac-12 opener. The Buffs are 2-9 since, with wins over Cal and USC.
The Buffs rank third in the conference with 15.2 offensive rebounds per game and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in their meeting with the Bears earlier this season in Berkeley.
