SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Cal women's basketball team continues its road trip on Sunday, taking on Utah at 12 p.m. MT/11 a.m. PT at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. The Golden Bears (9-15, 1-12 Pac-12) and Utes (12-12, 5-8 Pac-12) are both looking to get back in the win column after losses on Friday night. The Utes were overpowered 97-64 by No. 8 Stanford while the Bears were clipped by Colorado, 64-57, as their fourth-quarter comeback effort fell short.

Seniors Jaelyn Brown and CJ West combined for 24 points in Friday's loss and scored 20 of Cal's 34 points in the second half. Brown – who leads the Bears and ranks 10th in the conference in scoring this season with 14.5 points per game – scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter, going 3-8 from the floor and 5-5 from the foul line over the final 10 minutes. West added 11 points on a 5-for-6 performance from the floor, her third game with 10 or more points in the last four outings. Junior forward Alaysia Styles paced the Bears with eight points in the opening half while Jazlen Green and Evelien Lutje Schipholt added seven points each off the bench.

Cal trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, but cut the deficit to five with 49 seconds to play. However, the Buffaloes closed the game down the stretch to hand the Bears their third consecutive loss, all of which have come by eight points or fewer.

The Bears look to return to the win column on Sunday and secure the series split against the Utes. Utah won the first meeting between the teams this season, topping the Bears 71-62 on January 24 in Berkeley. Utah's Brynna Maxell led all scorers with 27 points, going 10-14 from the floor and 3-5 from beyond the arc. Dru Gylten added 10 points for the Utes, who scored 23 points off 22 turnovers by the Golden Bears. Three players scored in double-figures for the Bears, led by 22 points from redshirt senior Sara Anastasieska. Alaysia Styles and Jazlen Green added 12 points each in the loss.

Cal leads the overall series with the schools, 13-10, though Utah has won six of the last eight matchups between the teams. The Bears will be looking to end a recent drought in Salt Lake City, and pick up their first win at the Huntsman Center since 2014.

SCOUTING THE UTES
Utah heads into Sunday's matchup with two wins in its last three outings, but also in the midst of a three-game home losing streak. The Utes swept the Washington schools on the road last weekend, but fell to eighth-ranked Stanford, 87-64, on Friday night. The Cardinal outscored the Utes 55-33 in the opening half and held Utah to just 33.8 percent shooting (22-65) from the floor. Kemery Martin led the Utes with 15 points off the bench while Lola Pendande (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Daneesha Provo (11 points) also finished in double-figures. Maxwell, the Utes leading scorer this season at 12.5 points per game, was held scoreless for the first time this season, going 0-6 from the floor.

A freshman from Gig Harbor, Washington, Maxwell leads the conference and ranks 15th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 43.4 percent (62-143) from beyond the arc. Another youth-laden squad, fellow freshman Pendande is also averaging double-digit scoring this season (11.2 points per game) and leads the Utes in rebounding this season (5.6 rebounds per game).

As a team, Utah ranks third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (35.6 percent) and has connected on 201 three-pointers this season, trailing only Oregon for the most by any team in the Pac-12. The Utes were held to just four three-pointers (4-16) in their first meeting this season with the Bears, tied for their fewest three-pointers in a game this season.

Head coach Lynne Roberts is in her fifth season with the Utes, and returns two starters and five letterwinners from last season. Utah was picked seventh in the Preseason Pac-12 Coaches Poll.
