Bears Fall to No. 15 Beavers on Senior Day

Oregon State Pulls Away In Second Half For 76-63 Victory

BERKELEY – The Cal women's basketball kept one of the top teams in the nation within striking distance for 20 minutes, before No. 15 Oregon State (20-8, 8-8 Pac-12) pulled away in the second half for the 76-63 victory on Sunday at Haas Pavilion. The Beavers (20-8, 8-8 Pac-12) outscored the Golden Bears (10-17, 2-14 Pac-12) 51-39 over the final 20 minutes to secure the season sweep of the Bears. 

Oregon State senior Mikayla Pivec led all scorers with 24 points while Jaelyn Brown and Cailyn Crocker scored 17 points apiece for the Bears.

Playing its final home game of the 2019-20 season, Cal recognized its five graduating student-athletes on Sunday - honoring Sara Anastasieska, Jaelyn Brown, Mi'Cole Cayton, CJ West, and Chen Yue prior to the game. Anastasieska, Brown, and West were among the Bears' starting five and kept Cal in the game throughout the opening half. The Bears controlled the opening quarter and led the 15th-ranked Beavers, 16-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The Beavers retook the lead in the second quarter with a 6-0 run, but Cal's deficit never exceeded four points. Trailing by three with 20 seconds remaining in the half, the Bears' headed down the court for the final possession where freshman guard Crocker made a jumper with one second on the clock, sending Cal to the locker room trailing 25-24.
 
Cal hung around to begin the second half, trailing by eight with 4:23 remaining in the third quarter and ending the third down 52-43. The Bears went back-and-forth with Oregon State in the final quarter, but the Beavers ultimately outscored Cal 24-20 in the fourth period to win the contest 76-63.
 
Junior Alaysia Styles added nine points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Bears.
 
The Bears will now head to the Arizona schools for their final road trip of the regular season, facing No. 21 Arizona State on Friday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. PT and No. 11 Arizona on Sunday, March 1 at 11:00 a.m. PT. Both games will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks and streamed live on the Pac-12 Now app.
