Coming off a loss to No. 24 Arizona State on Friday night, Cal got off to a hot start on Sunday. Cal opened the game on a 4-0 run and held the Wildcats without a field goal for the first 7:51 of the game. The Bears kept Arizona to just 1-10 shooting from the floor in the opening quarter, and the Wildcats connected on just 1 of their first 15 field goal attempts on the day.
On the other end, Green paced the Bears' offense and connected on her first three attempts from the floor. Green knocked down back-to-back threes to give the Bears a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cal carried its momentum matched its largest lead of the day at 28-14, after a pair of free throws by Green. However, the Wildcats responded with a 12-2 run to close the half, capped by a three-pointer just before the buzzer by Dominique McBryde. Cal's offense stalled in the closing stages of the first half, going 0-5 from the floor over the final five minutes of the half.
The Wildcats extended their run into the second half and took their first lead of the day after a lay-up by McDonald, and led by as many as five points late in the third. Cal retook the lead on its opening possession of the fourth quarter after an elbow jumper by freshman
Cailyn Crocker. The fourth quarter saw seven ties and three lead changes, until Brown put the Bears up for good and McDonald's three-point attempt on the last possession missed the mark.
