LOS ANGELES – Cal (2-5, 0-2 Pac-12) completed a season-long five-game road trip with a 16-9 loss to No. 8/8 USC (6-0, 2-0 Pac-12) on Sunday at Soni McAlister Field. The Golden Bears played six of their first seven games on the road but will be at home for three in a row and four of their next five beginning with a visit from No. 24/NR Colorado on Friday (7 pm PT) for Cal's first home Pac-12 contest.

Megan Mix netted her first career hat trick for Cal in the loss with her career-high three goals accounting for three points, while Nikki Zaccaro also had three points on two goals and one assist. Quinnlyn Mason added a pair of goals, while Susie Ropp and Amanda Morse had one each. Zaccaro and Sophia Cerino each had an assist.

Izzy McMahon led nine different Trojans who scored with five goals accounting for all five of her points. Emily Concialdi, Katie Ramsay and Sophia Donovan added two goals each with Concialdi and Donovan also getting an assist to total three points. Erin Bakes, Caroline Cheetham, Kaeli Huff, Kelsey Huff and Kerrigan Miller all had one goal apiece. Kaeli Huff also had a team-high two assists, while Ella Haney picked up one.

Cal played two goalkeepers for the first time this season with freshman Riley Drullinger taking over for senior Makayla Ward with 6:49 to play in the opening half. Drullinger allowed nine goals and had four saves in just over a half of action in her collegiate debut, while Ward gave up seven goals and picked up five saves in just under a half of action.

Cal did hold a 15-12 advantage in draw controls with freshman Kacey Riggs registering a career-high and game-high eight. Lizabanks Campagna, Olivia Dey and Marisa Kuberra added two each while Catherine Roxas contributed one.

"The draws were a highlight today against a dominant team," Cal head coach Brooke Eubanks said.

Cal fell behind early and never led for the third consecutive game as the Trojans picked up the game's first two goals just over two minutes into contest on an unassisted scores by McMahon (28:23) and Concialdi (27:58).

Mix scored the first of her three goals on a free positon shot at 27:09 less than a minute after Concialdi's score but five different USC players would tally the game's next five goals to put the Trojans ahead 7-1 with 10:04 to go before the break and USC would never be seriously challenged.

Quinnlyn Mason scored the final goal of the first half on an assist by Cerino with 4:19 remaining to pull the Bears to within 7-2 at halftime but USC would score eight of the first 10 goals of the second half including four of the first five from McMahon to extend its lead to 15-4 with 11:46 to play.

Cal scored five of the game's final six goals over the final 8:52.

"We have learned a lot of good lessons over these first seven games and we're excited to get back home and put it all together on our home field," Eubanks said.
