Cal-UW Game Declared No Contest In Seattle
SEATTLE – The California men's soccer team was battling fourth-ranked Washington in a 1-1 tie through a downpour at Husky Soccer Stadium, when officials stopped the game in the 61st minute and, after meeting with both sets of coaches, declared a no contest due to field conditions and concern for player safety.
Â
Gio Miglietti had given Washington a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, and Cal's
Dylan Penn, a senior forward, had scored the equalizer with what was his first career goal in the 36th minute, as rain fell steadily throughout the night.
Â
But since the game did not reach the 70th-minute mark, all the statistics were nullified. For the second straight time – including the scheduled Oct. 24 game vs. San Diego State in Berkeley – bad weather wiped out a Cal game.
Â
The Bears next play at third-ranked Oregon State on Oct. 31 in Corvallis, Oregon.
