BERKELEY - California women's soccer fell, 1-0, in its Pac-12 road opener against Washington on Thursday evening at Husky Soccer Stadium.

The Bears had the majority of the chances as they outshot the Huskies, 14-8. Cal also took five of the six corner kicks in the game, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Washington took the lead in the sixth minute as Helena Reischling floated a ball from the left flank to the back post. Summer Yates met the cross and was able to head it into the back of the net.

The Bears had numerous opportunities in the first half to try to get back to even.
Abby Borchers headed a corner over the goal as she found some room in the box.
Marleen Rohde fired a left-footed shot that barely missed finding the upper corner of the net.
Karlie Lema got around her defender on the right flank and fired a ball across the middle, but UW's Olivia Sekany was able to pick it out as Cal entered intermission trailing, 1-0.

In the 56
th minute, Yates got free in the box again, but
Angelina Anderson stonewalled her, stopping the shot. That was one of three saves for Anderson on the night.

Cal applied the pressure late in the game as they looked for an equalizer.
Courtney Boone played a tantalizing ball into the box that just missed the heads of two onrushing Bears. However, Washington was able to hold on and claim the win.

The Bears will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they continue a three-game road trip with a matchup against Washington State. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on Pac-12 Insider.
