 HOW TO FOLLOW  QUICK HITS
  • Cal started the 2021 season with a 4-3 walk-off win on opening night (Feb. 19), but lost the weekend series to Pacific.
  • The Bears' pitching staff posted a collective 4.09 ERA and a 34-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in the Pacific series. Individually, junior right-hander Nick Proctor tossed 6.0 hitless innings of relief with nine strikeouts over two relief appearances so far.
  • Darren Baker is off to a hot start, batting .313 (5-for-16) with six runs scored, four walks and three stolen bases. He hit safely in all four games against Pacific and has a six-game hitting streak dating back to the 2020 season.
  • The Bears slugged five home runs in the Pacific series, including four in Monday's series finale. Dylan Beavers leads the squad with a pair.
  • The Bears and Dons will play a weekend series for the second straight season. USF claimed the 2020 series, winning games 1 and 3 in Berkeley while Cal took game 2 in San Francisco.
  • USF is coming off of an impressive series win at then-No. 2 UCLA in Los Angeles last weekend.
  • Freshmen Brian McClellin and Jag Burden started three and two games, respectively, in Cal's season-opening series. Three other Cal newcomers – including Sunday starting pitcher Paulshawn Pasqualotto – also made their debuts for the Blue & Gold.
  • Cal is 41-21 at Evans Diamond under head coach Mike Neu (2018-present).
