Bears Host California Baptist In Final Non-Conference Series

BERKELEY – California will look to win its fourth consecutive series when it hosts California Baptist at Evans Diamond this weekend, starting with a Friday afternoon contest at 6 p.m. PDT.
 
The three-game tilt stands as Cal's final non-conference weekend series of the season. The Golden Bears (10-6) have won nine of their past 12 games and are most recently coming off of three straight victories against Loyola Marymount at home. It will be the first time that Cal and CBU (10-4) have faced one another on the baseball diamond.
 
Under Pac-12 Conference guidance and local public health protocols, no fans are permitted to attend the series. There will be no live stream available for the series. Fans are encouraged to follow along via live stats.

  • Cal is in the midst of a seven-game homestand, its longest stretch of consecutive home games this season.
  • Dylan Beavers was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Tuesday after batting .375 with two home runs and six RBI in Cal's four-game series against LMU. It was the first conference award of his career.
  • The Bears rank second in the Pac-12 with 16 home runs. Beavers is the conference's individual leader with six.
  • Cal's pitching staff is 13th nationally and leads the Pac-12 in walks allowed per nine innings (2.73).
  • The Bears' bullpen owns a 2.78 ERA in 87.1 innings pitched. Opposing batters are hitting just .209 against Cal relievers.
  • Cal is 8-2 when playing at Evans Diamond this season.
  • Darren Baker leads Cal in batting average (.365) and multi-hit performances (8). He's seventh nationally with nine stolen bases.
  • The Bears are 9-0 when scoring first and 7-2 when scoring in the first inning.
  • Three of Cal's 10 wins have been walk-offs. The Bears had one walk-off in each of their first three series of the year.
  • Cal has turned 14 double plays, ranking 12th nationally. Baker (Pac-12-leading 54 assists) has played a big role in that success.
