HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Huskies took an early lead in the first set and stretched it to a 25-16 win, Cal battled back in the second frame. The teams traded points and the Bears took a 7-6 lead on a Meyer kill. The conference champions, however, showed their resilience, scoring five out of six points for a 14-9 advantage.Â
The Bears closed to within three, 14-11, on a UW error and Grote kill and got to within three points three more times, including 20-17, but couldn't close the gap further as the Huskies took a 25-19 win for a 2-0 lead in the match. Â Â Â Â
Washington scored the first four points of the third, but Cal fought back, tying the score 6-6 on a Meyer kill. The Huskies were too much down the stretch as they closed out the set for a 3-0 victory.Â
